Harrow on the Hill Area Guide
Living in Harrow on the Hill
Steeped in history with many magnificent buildings, the High Street runs along the top ridge of Harrow on the Hill, from the Norman church of St Mary’s and the imposing buildings of Harrow School, passed the commercial line of Cafe’s restaurants and bars, to the start of London Road.
At it’s heart is found “The Green”, a small but important landmark overlooked by The Old Fire Station (now home to Woodward Estate Agent’s) and the old King’s Head Hotel, now luxury appartments of King Henry Mews. The Green plays host the annual May Day Festival, a wonderful event that demonstrates the community and neighbourly nature of The Hill.
The High Street includes other appartments such as Chiltern House and Coniston Court, both with stunning views.
To the West of the High Street runs the medieval network of lanes including Crown Street, West Street, Nelson Road, Trafalgar Terrace, Victoria Terrace, Middle Road and Byron Hill Road. Houses here date back to 14th or 15th century, but are predominantly early and mid Victorian. On this side of the Village you will find an eclectic mix of cottages, larger houses, characterful maisonettes and flats.
